Q. What is an OEM?
OEM stands for the Original Equipment Manufacturer where the cartridge was originally manufactured.
Q. What is a compatible cartridge?
A compatible toner cartridge uses the original OEM shell and replaces all components such as the drum, wiper blades, toner magnetic rollers, etc. The cartridge can be compatible in different machines crossing over manufacturers. For example, a Xerox 4525 machine uses the same toner cartridge shell as the IBM 1145.
Q. What is a remanufactured cartridge?
A remanufactured cartridge uses the original OEM shell and replaces all components such as the drum, wiper blades, toner magnetic rollers etc. View our toner cartridge quality standards.
Q. Will a compatible or remanufactured product work as well in my printer as an OEM product?
Absolutely! We also offer a 12 month warranty from the date of purchase.
Q. Do compatible or remanufactured products last as long as OEM?
The yield on the products will be the same. If an OEM 9000 toner has a yield of 30,000 impressions, a remanufactured unit will have the same yield.
Q. What is MICR toner?
MICR toner stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. MICR toner is widely used by banks, payroll companies and anyone producing statements or documents that need to be sent to the federal government, etc.
Q. Do I lose my warranty using compatible products?
Know Your Warranty Rights. For example, Hewlett Packard clearly states in their warranty policy “HP does not prohibit the use of remanufactured toner cartridges during the warranty period or under a maintenance contract...” To enforce such a policy would be in direct violation of the Sherman Clayton Antitrust Act Laws.
Q. Can I recycle my empty cartridges (is recycling encouraged)?
YES! We encourage everyone to recycle the remanufactured consumables.

Quick Tips
Extend Cartridge Print Life
When “LOW TONER” message is displayed, remove the cartridge frome the printer and GENTLY rock it side to side to redistribute the toner. Reinstall the cartridge and continue to print.
Never store or place a toner cartridge in an upright position.
Print Density
You can select the lightness or darkness of print by using the print density adjustment. Lighter print density setting will yield a greater number of printed pages.
Ensure Good Print Quality
Each time you install a new toner cartridge, use cleaning paper to clean the internal parts of the printer.
Trouble Shooting Check List
- The quality and type of media used may cause unnecessary problems such as poor print quality and increased paper jams. Mark sure all media is designed for use in your specific laser printer.
- Verify Cartridge source/manufacturer.
- Visually inspect cartridge to see if there is visible damage that may have occurred in shipping.
- Verify that toner seal is completely removed.
- Reset the cartridge, possibly the cartridge was not aligned into the machine properly.
- Insert problem cartridge in another printer.
- Does problem follow the cartridge?
- Replace the problem cartridge in the same printer.
- Does the problem persist?
- Some print quality problems can occur ewhen a cardige is changed or a paper jam has been cleared. Print at least 10 pages to see if problem dimishes.
Printer Maintenance
- Remove build-up of toner and paper dust inside printer on and along the paper path. Failing to VACUUM or WIPE with a toner cloth can cause build up.
- Squeaking noises can be caused by warn parts, toner build-up or paper dust within the printer. This does not indicate a damaged cartridge, however proper vacuum can extend the life of your cartridge and your printer!
- Warn fuser rollers can cause poor print quality, ghosting, and textural defects. Maintenance kits must be changed! Refer to your printer manual or contact Photikon for information regarding your specific printer model and we can provide you with the standard print yield per kit.
